Micromax launched the much awaited Canvas 5 in India today which promises improvements on its predecessor Canvas 4 that received criticism about camera and build quality. Priced at Rs. 11,999, the Smartphone is available to buy in stores from today onwards and it comes in Tan Brown and Space grey colors.

Some of the specs on Canvas 5 are similar to its predecessor; though it has improved on certain things like it now has a powerful processor and better battery. The display of the phone has improved quite a lot and now flaunts a 5.2 inch IPS display with a Corning Gorilla glass 3 coating, 2.5D arc glass panel and pixel density of 424ppi.

The device bears a removable plastic back panel with leather finish adding premiumness to it. Under the hood is an Octa Core Mediatek MT6753 64-bit processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and supported by 450 GHz Mali-T720 GPU. The RAM has been upped to 3GB against 1GB of Canvas 4 while it comes with 16GB of in-built storage which is further expandable up to 64GB using a Micro SD card.

The camera units remain same as the Canvas 4 with 13 megapixel rear camera supporting LED flash, PDAF and Samsung 3M2 sensor and a 5MP camera at front on board. According to Micromax, rear camera of the Smartphone is capable of locking focus on the subject in 0.2 seconds, due to phase detection autofocus technology.

Also, the device features gravity sensor, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and magnetometer. For connectivity, Canvas 5 includes 4G LTE bands (LTE FDD 850MHz/1800MHz and TDD 2300MHz) 3G HSPA+, GPS, Micro-USB, Bluetooth 4.0, and Wi-Fi. It runs on Android lollipop 5.1 which is upgradable to Marshmallow 6.0 in near future.

The Canvas 5 is fuelled by a 2900mah battery which is said to be good enough for 10 hours of talktime and 275 hours of standby time. Airtel 4G users will get double data offer for three months, alongside a seven day doorstep service policy from the Micromax. The Flagship comes with some pre-loaded apps such as Clean Master, Saavn, Snapdeal, Amazon kindle, Chaatz, Hike, Temple paradise Dash and many more.
